Dhoni the Finisher! Finished?

Dhoni the Finisher! Finished?

After the World Cup 2019, the dressing atmosphere completely changed as they lost the semi-final match against New Zealand. The pitch was the ultimate bitch I would reckon as the game went to reserve day. On reserve day, the ball was not coming on to the bat well and the pitch was damp as it had rained last night. All these conditions favored New Zealand and the seamers were absolutely brilliant in the middle. The asking rate was not high for a quality team like the India but the ball kept on moving, which alarmed the Indian batters and top order completely collapsed including skipper Virat Kohli.

As the top order collapsed, the whole burden was transferred on a 38 year old man, MS Dhoni. He had been in these scenarios many a times but this time it was completely different and the bowlers never gave width for him to play his shots either. Even though the target was 220+, Indian batsman couldn’t reach it as they have never negotiated swing. Mitchell Santer was brilliant with the ball as he had only conceded 4 runs out of his 5 overs. MS Dhoni was in middle looking for some singles and doubles as he couldn’t strike biggies of New Zealand seamers. Ravindra Jadeja, one of the best all rounders of Indian cricket team stepped up as a middle order batsman and played a beautiful innings.

He had to go for shots as MS Dhoni was not rotating singles and was playing too many dot balls. 22 of last over and Dhoni on strike! Such a treat to watch! Isn’t it? Very first ball was hammered way for a six. 16 of 5, still gettable for Mr. perfect but was run-out.

MSD as usual put his head down and marched towards the dressing room. The criticism is always there and yes, aging is a natural process and at 38, he has done a great job for his country as a Captain, Wicket-keeper, and a Batsman. He had always told that he wanted to serve his country as a paramilitary regiment. He had an honorary Lt. Colonel from the military department. He has taken a break from cricket for 2 months and might get back to the team. Since he is very much dedicated to serve his country, he might retire but not sure.
